Design Contest – Collaborate with Pick Up Sticks!

THE CONTEST

Have you ever wanted to see YOUR design on a Pick Up Sticks photo charm? Have you ever looked at an old photo of your Aunt Thelma on a bad hair day and thought it looked like a Pick Up Sticks charm waiting to happen? Have you ever been sitting under a dryer in a beauty shop in rural America listening to local gossip, or waiting in line for a stall in a dive bar bathroom and thought, “this conversation is like a scene from a Pick Up Sticks charm”. . .?

Well, here’s your chance to make it happen! We’re holding a Pick Up Sticks design contest and we want YOU to enter.

Our first design contest will be for a design to fit into our current holiday category. Feel free to go to www.pickupsticks.net to see our holiday charms (we’ve also displayed them above) – certainly it won’t work very well for you to duplicate what already exists. We want a charm that will celebrate life’s big transitions, something that will say “look out world, here I come.” Think about what you’d give to a new mom, or to a graduate, or even to your best pal after she obtains a divorce from that nasty guy you told her not to marry. Something that celebrates each of them for being brave, or for being the absolute best at what she does. And create a charm that you could give to all three.

Take some time to come up with a fabulous original idea from your store of experiences and images. We’re not talking about your sorority’s emblem or a photograph of your new puppy. We’re talking a design/photo and/or a quote so amazing that our eyeballs could pop out like Roger Rabbit when we look at it! Make us laugh out loud. Make us drool.

Got a picture of your mom in a beehive with a bad date? A cat dancing on a beach ball? How about three girls in the back of a boat surrounded by Coronas and limes (oh no, wait, that’s a photo that Bunny has of her and Glena and Sabrina. . .)? Add a quote that makes us snort milk through our noses and you’re on it!

If you prefer something sentimental that will make us cry, that’s okay as well. We like sentimental, we like humorous. Life is all of the above, sometimes all at the same time. And at Pick Up Sticks we’re definitely about noticing how amazing life really is!

The staff, friends and family of Pick Up Sticks will help us decide which design should become the next Pick Up Sticks photo charm! If it’s too close to call, we may post three or four of the best ideas on the blog and let you help us choose.

TIPS

Your personal vintage photographs work really well.

Quotes shorter than 35 characters (including spaces) are a must.

If it makes you laugh in recognition of how goofy or special life is, it’s probably a winner. Or at least a close contender.

Think about all those Pick Up Sticks customers out there going through a display and seeing your charm. What would they want to buy for their best friend? (Now you know how we do it. . .)
